BI Data Modeler (Backend Platform/Data Expert)

Technical skills

• Comprehensive experience with creating 3NF and dimensional data models

• Experience developing and designing conceptual, logical and physical data models using major enterprise data modeling tools for data stores

• Documents Data Domains, Data Definitions and Data Lineage to be stored in the enterprise repository

• Analyzes business requirements and translates those into scalable OLAP solutions and data models by utilizing best design methodologies and coding standards

• Has experience with Master Data Management (MDM) and Data Quality tools and principles.

• Provides production support and ongoing OLAP (SSAS/Cognos) maintenance through optimization of cube performance, data integrity, capacity and reliability.

• Creates solutions and helps prepare test plans by having solid knowledge of data warehousing concepts, dimensional/cube data modeling techniques, including MDX and DAX scripting.

• Supports installs/upgrades/configures SSAS/Cognos servers, security, cube scheduling, solution deployment, backing up and restoring OLAP databases/cubes.

• Strong knowledge of OLAP tools such as Cognos Dynamic Cubes and Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services

• Meets with decision makers, subject matter experts, developers/architects and end users to clarify business requirements for data models

• Experience with data modeling tools such as ERwin, ER/Studio or Power Designer; PowerDesigner is a big plus

• Provides production support and ongoing OLAP (SSAS/Cognos) maintenance through optimization of cube performance, data integrity, capacity and reliability.

 

Other skills

• Experience eliciting requirements from business users and reverse engineering from source system data models in defining the entities and attributes

• Follows business requirements and works with data analysts on physical database design and modeling.

• Supply Chain Management/telecom domain knowledge is a big plus

• Strong analytical ability and aptitude to derive and translate data designs from business concepts.

• Ability to understand and quickly learn business concepts, functions, processes

• Knowledge of relational databases, as well as skills in SQL query design and development.

• Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required.

• Proven creative problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to communicate ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Logical, efficient, and proactive.

• Highly self-motivated and directed.

• Keen attention to detail.

• Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
