Job Title: MS Exchange Administrator
Location: Baltimore, MD
Duration: 6 Months

Note: local or regional candidate able to do an in person if required

DEFINITION:       Plans, coordinates, and assists with the development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of computer network infrastructure including hardware, software, and related components for the district's enterprise Microsoft Exchange email system.  Works with both new technology and legacy technology to ensure successful access for staff and teachers to necessary resources.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Works with the current in-house Microsoft Exchange Enterprise System Engineer as needed and assigned. 
Installs, configures, administers, and maintains enterprise email system servers. 
Schedules and maintains backups of enterprise servers. 
Develops and modifies applications and reports using various tools as necessary. 
Installs and configures various applications relating to Cisco VoIP integration as needed.
Installs, configures, tunes, and maintains VMWare servers in a large farm environment located in two physically separated data centers as needed.
Provides support for business continuity and disaster recovery operations.
Ensures system security and assists as needed during network/server forensics work.
Ensures compliance with the Quality Management System in order to maintain ISO9001 certification.
Participates in and provides support for internal and external audits as necessary. 
Installs, configures, and maintains network systems as needed. 
Installs, configures, and maintains network management tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, and WhatsUp Professional as needed. 
Manages network infrastructure projects. 
Serves as a project team leader in the development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of email systems, databases, web services, and network infrastructure components as needed related to the Exchange email system.
Ensures that projects are completed in accordance with established deadlines and standards. 
Develops priorities and schedules of assignments. 
Prepares estimates of project time and costs.
Coordinates the work of project teams with the work of other departments and teams as needed. 
Provides advice and guidance to, and visits schools and offices regarding computer network issues as needed relating to email, smart phone/devices, etc. for connecting to the Exchange system.
Maintains documentation for network configurations, equipment, and procedures. 
Maintains server hardware inventory.
Designs, setups, and administers Win2008/Win2012 servers and domains, along with Exchange 2007, 2010, and 2013.
Establishes and manages policies and standards, including email and backup systems. 
Diagnoses and resolves problems associated with cross-platform systems. 
Provides technical guidance to team members on PowerShell. 
Ensures that best practices are employed by team members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training, and Experience:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, plus four years of experience supporting and administering Microsoft Exchange servers in a large, geographically dispersed environment.  (Additional qualifying experience in the support of Microsoft Exchange 2013 can be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.) 
Licenses and Certificates:  Possession of Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certifications are preferred, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of developing, implementing, maintaining, and enhancing computer network infrastructure, with an emphasis on Microsoft Exchange.  Knowledge of exchange servers, SQL servers, Internet information servers, and Windows 2003/2008/2012.  Knowledge of the design, setup, and administration of Win2003/Win2008/2012 servers.  Knowledge of administering email, Internet access, backup, anti-virus programs, network security, remote access, and LAN/WAN technologies.  Knowledge of design, implementation and administration of Active Directory, Cisco Pix/ASA Firewall, and/or Cisco/Juniper VPN concentrators and servers.  Knowledge of Extreme and Cisco core switches a plus.  Knowledge of operational and network connectivity problems across LAN/WANs.  Knowledge of protocols including TCP/IP, IPX, SMTP, IMAP, POP3, http, FTP, DHCP, WINS, DNS, LDAP, VPN Client, and OSI Model.  Knowledge of a variety of networking topics including data encapsulation, layering, filtering, protocol de-multiplexing, LAN/WAN media types, virtual circuit services, tunneling, virtual private networking, and IP multicasting.
Skill in administering network servers such as exchange servers, SQL servers, and Internet information servers in a large, geographically dispersed environment.  Skill in the development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of computer network infrastructure.  Skill in evaluating technology and recommending network configurations and topologies.  Skill in maintaining documentation for network configurations, equipment, and procedures.  Skill in analyzing, testing, and implementing database designs that support new and existing business applications.
Ability to serve as a project team leader in the development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of email systems, databases, web services, and network infrastructure components.  Ability to plan, direct, and control the activities of technical team members.  Ability to administer multiple projects simultaneously.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental team members, office-based, and school-based team members. 

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: 
The work of this class is generally sedentary and performed in an office environment in Essex, Maryland.  Duties require travel to schools and facilities throughout Baltimore County and other areas, and the lifting and carrying of heavy network infrastructure equipment (up to 75lbs).  Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial class C, Maryland driver's license is required.  May be required to use their own vehicle to respond to remote sites for troubleshooting and repair work. 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Persons appointed to this class will participate in a rotational 24/7 on-call, and may be required to work beyond their normally scheduled hours with little or no advanced notice.  Work includes evenings and weekends as required.  Persons appointed to this classification must be of good moral character and emotionally stable as determined by a comprehensive background investigation and finger print check.
