The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is currently seeking exceptional individuals to join the development effort of Cognos business intelligence and reporting tools for the existing Data Warehouse. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled development team and contribute to a critical and highly visible project within the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.
We are seeking self-starters who are highly motivated, efficient, professional, communicative and able to contribute to the team on day one. As Cognos developer the candidate/s will participate in the development of Framework Manager Models, reports, cubes, dashboards and the design and implementation of overall BI solutions. The candidate will also be expected to provide guidance as needed to other developers new to the Cognos environment. Must have minimum 3 years Cognos development experience. Certification preferred.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Provide guidance and support to developers and other team members as required by the Manager/Director
Assist in developing a plan to migrate existing Actuate and Mainframe reports to Cognos under the direction of Manager/Director
Conduct research and analysis and provide recommendation to Management as directed by Manager/Director
Create/Deliver presentations and other project deliverables, including but not limited to implementation plan, user guides, environment walkthroughs, etc…
Draft business requirements and write technical specifications for Cognos report, cubes, Framework Manager Packages
Develop Cognos packages using Cognos Modeling tool/ Framework Manager, including specific packages optimized for use by business users using Query Studio.
Develop Cognos content, specifically Reports in Report Studio, Cognos Cubes using Transformer, Events in Event Studio.(Dashboard experience a plus)
Collaborate with other team members and create a user-friendly design of Cognos user interface.
The candidate will work closely with the business analyst or the end user to define/refine the requirements.
Assist business users in developing/ executing complex queries/ reports using Analysis studio, Query Studio.
Provide assistance as required by the Manager/Director throughout the project implementation and rollout.
Improve the performance of Cognos by managing cube size.
Strong communication skills and ability to lead meetings and provide direction to team members and junior developers
Required
Development of Framework Manager Models and Query Packages
Develop Complex Dashboards, Reports and Cubes using Report Studio and Transformer.
Extensive Experience with Cognos Query Studio, Powerplay Studio, Event Studio.
Thorough knowledge of the Cognos portal functionality.
Extensive Knowledge in Oracle, SQL Server SQL writing skills.
Strong problem solving & analytical skills.
Knowledge of ETL Concepts.
Strong Communication skills
Preferred
Experience with working with state agencies and basic knowledge of state policies and procedures.
Cognos Administration and User Security Implementation experience
Experience with TOAD preferred.
Knowledge of and/or experience developing Actuate reports
Solid grasp of the requirements gathering process preferred.
Cognos Installation and Configuration on Multi server Distributed Environment.
Knowledge of Reports and Cube scheduling operations.
Knowledge of Metrics Studio a plus
Certification preferred
