Primary Responsibilities:
The Senior Software Engineer designs, develops, and maintains large-scale, complex, highly visible web projects. This individual is also responsible for providing technical leadership within the development team and proposing innovative solutions to technical issues.
Responsibilities include:
1. Engineers the next generation of customer-facing web sites
2. Creates technical specifications and technical architecture documentation
3. Participates in the discovery process of projects, and provides strategic/technical input on requirements documentation and other
project documentation
4. Writes code / participates in the development effort
5. Conducts full quality assurance testing prior to submitting work
6. Assists in maintaining existing software
7. Researches and stay up to date on new technologies, and recommends and utilizes new functionality when possible
8. Proposes innovative solutions when technical issues arise during the development effort
9. Shares best practices and technical knowledge with Programmers / Analysts as appropriate, and performs periodic code reviews
10. Participates in project planning sessions (sprint planning sessions, creation of work breakdown structures, etc.)
11. Ensures that development is aligned with technical and architectural standards, and satisfies business requirements
12. Identifies project risks/issues and proposes mitigation strategies

5. Participation in events to create external awareness of the knowledge and resources available in the group
6. Participation in events that foster internal knowledge sharing among
team members
7. 100% conformance to Cablevision guidelines, standards and procedures
8. High Quality Rating on all implementations
9. No implementations with outstanding "criticality 1" or "2" defects
10. Meets or exceeds policy, process and paperwork on time delivery requirements
11. Meets or exceeds business unit expectations
QUALIFICATIONS
Management Skills:
a) Experience working within formal methodologies for software development and a clear understanding of project management processes
b) Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, and adjust priorities based on workload and direction from management or customer
c) Ability to organize, plan and execute major projects with minimal supervision
d) Exceptional verbal and written communications skills; including the ability to respond to customer inquiries, effectively communicate critical problems and discuss resolutions with management; ability to translate complex technical problems into simple lay terms understandable to a non-technical audience; and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly in documentation
e) Ability to analyze project needs and determine resources needed to meet objectives
f) Project planning and management skills, including scope of work, time estimation, and resource assignment
Technical/Functional Competencies:
1. Works within a modern web development environment using Spring MVC, grails, Maven, test-driven development, continuous integration, etc.
2. Programming/scripting language and operating system expertise
consisting of, but not limited to the following; JAVA, J2EE, EJB, Servlets, JSP, JDBC, HTML5, SQL, XML, UNIX, Solaris, Windows NT, and object oriented languages
3. Web/App server expertise consisting of, ATG Dynamo, ATG e-commerce, BCC, JBoss, Tomcat, Apache
4. Experiences with SOAP and REST web services (both client- and
server-side)
5. Experience with issue-tracking systems (especially JIRA) a plus
6. Experience working within Subversion a plus
7. Knowledge of HTML 5, Javascript, CSS, and Flash a plus
8. Knowledge of databases and database design a plus
9. Strong analytical skills
10. Experience developing and deploying applications in a multi-tier environment
11. Must be highly organized and detail oriented
