Our client, a large Cloud Services organization located in Cambridge, MA is looking for a Senior Unix Systems Administrator. 

Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the UNIX systems manager, the candidate will be responsible for building, maintaining, and providing on-going administration, as well as, Tier1/Tier2 support of Unix (Solaris) and Linux (Red Hat and Debian) systems. The candidate will be working with both internal and external customer facing systems, which run a variety of Unix Operating Systems. They will also perform remote software installations; patch software/OS; troubleshoot connectivity problems.

Required Skills:

• Advanced familiarity with most operating system commands/utilities on Linux (Red Hat and Debian) and SUN Solaris.


• Xwindows / Gnome Unix Desktop experience.


• Familiarity with most basic system administration tools and processes. For example, can boot/shutdown a machine; apply DNS changes; use utilities like ping, trace route, fsck, or chkdsk; apply OS and third-party packages and patches.

Desired Skills:

• Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Perl, Shell).


• Programming experience in any applicable language (C, C++).


• Unix OS deployment using Jumpstart and Kickstart.

Non-Technical Skills:

• Moderate to strong communication skills.


• A 4-year college degree (technical preferred but not required).
