Immediate Need of MySQL DBA

Job Purpose

The purpose of this position is to provide all aspects of MySQL database administration for multiple databases in a 7x24 production environment.  The resource in this position will handle the day-to-day database administration including space allocation and management, optimization, backup, recovery, DB instance performance monitoring and tuning, capacity planning, standards identification and compliance, in ensuring a high-level of reliability and availability for database management systems.  In addition, the resource in this position will act as the subject matter expert in MySQL for the development team.

 

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Expert in creating and managing MySQL Databases in a High-Availability MySQL environment and oversee the master-slave replication, failover procedures or MySQL cluster.
  • Responsible for developing best-practices for setup and design for MySQL.
  • Provide expertise in performance tuning long-running/problematic queries and performance issues.
  • Pro-actively ensures database systems are maintained at the highest level of support; plan/set procedures; provide reliable and secure systems for business applications.
  • Review database error messages, diagnose, troubleshoot, and suggest course of action and/or implement solutions.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support for database related problems.
  • Understands and follows database security policies and procedures to ensure accurate data is added to the database and only authorized users can access the database.  
  • Schedules, monitors, and maintains database backup and recovery procedures which will protect the business from unexpected hardware and software failures.
  • Works closely with operations staff to ensure stable performance for the database environments, monitors, analyzes, identifies and resolves bottlenecks and resolves problems.
  • Provides appropriate resources for business applications by performing capacity planning, workload modeling and prediction; provides business applications with enough resources for their short-term and long-term growth.
  • Ensure the database management system environment is updated with current stable versions of software products; maintain currency with operating system and support software; plan and implement major software upgrades; ensure change management procedures and methodologies are implemented and followed.
  • Full knowledge of SQL including programming and ways to optimize SQL code.  Working knowledge of Informix and Sybase is a plus.
  • Stay current on new releases and on DBA technical skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain a high level of user trust and confidence within the team and across the organization.

 

Other Qualifications:

3+ years' experience managing MySQL in a High Availability environment

Expert in performance tuning

Bachelor's Degree or 5+ years' experience in managing MySQL in lieu of a degree.

MySQL certification is a plus.

PHP experience and development a plus.
