· Indices department is supposed to create and maintain Indices for various clients
Position summary
The Indices Services team enhances, maintains and support Markit's flagship Indices product service. This role is initially that of a middle level developer working on the new strategic projects and tasks to develop & support the platform.
This is an exciting developer opportunity for a strong technical candidate with a numerate degree, or equivalent, to work on indices systems. This role would suit a Java/SQL developer with 5-8 years' experience. Financial experience knowledge is a plus especially in the indices domain.
Duties & accountabilities
· Hands on development in Java, GWT, groovy and MS SQL Server for Markit Indices system, as an experienced developer of a medium-sized team of developers.
· Provide support for NY business close and work with global team in Noida, London and NY
· Understand system architecture and become involved in development, support and maintenance
· Produce high quality code and participate in the code review
Business competencies
Education and experience
· The right candidate will have an academic degree in software engineering or exceptional track record if the candidate has a degree in any other discipline
· 5-8 years professional programming experience
· Substantial Java/J2EE design and implementation experience is essential, including Object Oriented Design Patterns
· Strong experience with an enterprise-grade relational database management system, preferably SQL Server
· Desired experience in UI development using GWT
· Experience with highly numeric applications advantageous
· The right candidate would also demonstrate solid OO programming and have strong opinions on best programming practices
· The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable track record actively contributing to the implementation of innovative, best-practice-based, technical solutions in a complex and challenging environment
· Experience in groovy and Indices is preferred
Commercial awareness
· Fixed Income or other Financial Markets knowledge is plus
Management requirements
· Previous experience mentoring and cross-training more junior developers preferred
