Location: QA Engineer
Job description:
The successful candidate must be able to configure and install QA test environments to perform testing of web and desktop software applications, as well as understand formal software engineering practices and quality assurance standards. In addition, the position must be able to perform system administration of the entire QA test environment. The ability to interpret product requirements, develop test procedures, and understand functional, performance, load, installation, and usability testing are key.
Principal Responsibilities include:
• Windows server administration - setup/maintenance of multi-tier computing environments including but not limited to web server configuration
• COTS and custom-developed software installation/setup
• Administration of users/groups/privileges within Windows and Linux environments
• Testing of software using formalized QA processes such as test planning, test execution, and test reporting.
• Understanding software development principals, including familiarity with development toolkits, web development, current development languages, databases, and scripting.
• Development and maintenance of network architecture diagrams
• Daily up-time/maintenance of all QA test environments
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Windows 2003/2008 Server Administration
• Linux Server Administration
• Working knowledge of IIS 6-7.5 configuration
• Deployment of .NET and Linux multi-tier web-based enterprise applications
• Microsoft Windows Systems Administration: Active Directory, policies, SMS, monitoring, etc.
• Ability to deploy COTS and custom-developed software on either Windows or Linux servers
• Creation of test plans and test cases from formal requirements and design documentation.
• Experience with manual and automated test execution
• Experience with creation of test reports
• Experience with a commercial bug management system
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Visio
• Ability to work within a cross-functional team collaborative IT environment
• Proactive approach to problem solving
DESIRED SKILLS:
• Experience with automated testing applications similar to Visual Studio 2010 Test Edition and/or HP Quality Center.
• Experience with Multi-tier computing environments including load balanced application (middleware) servers supported by back end database servers
• Understanding of the formal software development lifecycle process
• Scripting experience (i.e. Cygwin, Dos, Bash, Perl, Python, and/or VBscript)
• Knowledge of Virtualization software, such as VMware Server/Desktop, and Windows Virtual PC.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008/2010/2012
• Development and support of web-based and desktop applications using .NET/C#/ASP.NET/SQL Server 2008
• Experience with source control management software, such as Subversion (SVN)
• Testing experience of GIS technologies including ESRI ArcSDE, ArcIMS, ArcGIS
• Basic understanding of HTTP traffic, ports, web-services, clustered and distributed systems, fileshares and batch processes.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, I.T., or similar degree
• 4+ years of structured software quality assurance engineering experience is required. Hands-on experience with creation of test plans, development and execution of test cases and reporting of test results is a must.
