Title: Linux Administrator

Location: Chicago, IL

Duration: 12 - 18 months +

 

Required Skills: 

• Linux Systems Engineers will be involved in designing, installing, configuring, managing, and supporting technical components within the operating system environment.
• Technology components include the core operating system Linux (RHEL v5.x and v6) and operating system tools such as TSM (backup/recovery), CA (event management), Bladelogic (system provisioning).
• General system administration
• Create / modify / delete file systems
• Shutdown / reboot systems
• Stop / start operating system services and tools
• Edit system configuration files (network settings, kernel parameters,service configuration files, cron)
• Develop scripts to automate administrative activities - update scripts based on system changes
• General system troubleshooting, Analyze system log files AND Analyze application log files
• Using system diagnostic tools to monitor/understand system
• performance(process, storage space, CPU utilization, memory utilization)
• Deploy new operating systems (based on approved standards) and associated system tools  (configure new operating systems per design specifications)
• Upgrade systems and associated system tools and apply patches to systems and associated system tools
• Deploy/upgrade firmware
• Support application deployment on systems
• Make system specific configurations to support application installation
• Install 3rd party software that requires elevated privileges typically not available to application teams
• Execute scripts/programs to support application installation
• Assist teams with troubleshooting software and network issues
• Migrate systems (from one physical server to another)
• Analyze current system to understand system settings/configurations
• Copy system configurations from one physical server to another physical server
• Copy file systems from one server to another server (all file systems)
• Perform operational readiness testing
